What a week I have had!
Two weeks ago I was selected by a TASD committee as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the 1960 Class of Arkansas High School!
Needless to say I was honored and overwhelmed. One of my first thoughts was ‘Why me Lord, what have I ever done to deserve even one of the pleasures I’ve known,’ from the song written by Kris Kristofferson.
There was a 3-day celebration that began with a parade on Wednesday with around 40 floats and cars and in one was myself along with Sam Stuckey from the 1966 class of Booker T. Washington!
Representing the 1960 AHS Class as a Distinguished Alumni Recipient, I felt like a celebrity waving to the crowd. I couldn’t show my shoe like the Miss America parade. At the of age 83, my leg would not go quite that far in the air! 🤦♀️
On Thursday was a beautiful gala dinner and reception where my accomplishments was rewarded with a beautiful engraved Crystal Vase and a beautiful wooden Razorback Plate.
The dinner was White House-worthy, and the cafeteria workers were awesome in their preparation!
I am a writer and musician, not a speaker, but I did manage a short acceptance speech for my award!
On Friday, Mr Stuckey and I were presented at the homecoming game with Hot Springs High School which they won in a big way! (21 to 52) Way to go Razorbacks!
From the parade to the beautiful reception gala and recognition at the Homecoming game, it was a celebration befitting a queen.
Dr. Jackson and Dr. Genia Bullock were awesome hosts! I know it took several hours of preparation by the two of them, Jeffery Patterson, and the TASD staff members but it made a perfect celebration for this proud graduate of Arkansas High School.
I will cherish my experience forever!
